Paul D Boles
Born: May 27, 1925
Married Mollie Garza on _______
Deceased: October 13,
2004
Below is one of the eulogies read at Paul D.'s funeral.
Paul Boles Sr. - I remember
Uncle Paul underneath vehicles, working on them - I remember him cooking
hamburgers at The Lighted Pier - I remember sleeping in his kitchen when I
was 12 and waking up to him dipping his buttered and jammed biscuits into
the yolks of his sunny side up eggs - Sunny Side UP - that's what I remember
about Uncle Paul - he had this amazing ability to remember every thing that
ever tickled him - I think it's an incredible thing to remember and tell the
stories of the things that made you happy in life - the small moments - the
moments where you touched somebody's life and they touched yours - When I
was small and until the last time I saw my Uncle Paul, I remember him
telling stories - not sad stories, or unpleasant things - Uncle Paul
remembered every thing that made him laugh - think about that - his memory
was for laughter - laughter makes life lighter and endurable - makes life
joyful and abundant - laughter is the thing that can scare bad thoughts away
- and that's all that Uncle Paul remembered - He would tell me stories about
his times on the road as a trucker, his time at Farmer`s Copper Marine
Works, people he met at donut shops and cafes all over the country, stories
from his childhood - and he would still laugh about those moments as if they
were still alive - and I realized one day - that they were in fact still
alive - he purposely filled up the bank account of his soul with all the
happy moments he remembered - his legacy in my heart is one of my richest
treasures of my life - he reminded me to remember the good times and to keep
talking about them - to keep telling the stories of the happy things, the
funny things - what I learned is that remembering these things gives you the
eyes to see them when they occur more and more as time goes by - and then
one day without knowing it - you have become rich - richer than your wildest
dreams - this is what I learned from my Uncle Paul - quite possibly the
wisest of us all - what do you remember ? are you building your life up by
remembering the good or tearing it down by remembering the bad - Uncle Paul
by my accounts was one of the richest persons I've ever known - he was rich
in joy, in laughter, and in stories. He used to say all the time that this "tickled"
him or she said something and it "tickled"
him or she got "tickled"
when he said this or saw this - I realized that what he was saying was true
- we hear or say or do things that "tickle" us on the inside just like hands
that tickle us on the outside - Uncle Paul remembered all the moments in his
life that "Tickled" him - what a legacy - what a treasure - what a free and
great heart - Uncle Paul`s Joy was complete - he showed this in what he
chose to remember in his life - it made him rich in ways that most people
don't see or recognize - and it's probably what made him so unique and
special - I laughed around my Uncle Paul and my Aunt Molly - laughter was
part of every gathering around the kitchen table at the house on 2917
Kingston Drive in Texas City - I feel richer by far in my life because of
my Uncle Paul Boles Sr. and his beautiful wife, my Aunt Molly Boles - Over
the years I've often seen Paul Jr. cracking jokes and I've always laughed a
lot when Patty and I have gotten together - They have both lightened my
load with laughter - So I know they carry this same love of "tickling"
inside them too - Patty and Paul keep this legacy alive - I see they have
friends who, like me, just feel good being around them - they have overcome
bad parts of life with laughter just like Uncle Paul and Aunt Molly - May
God Bless the families of Paul and Molly Boles - for it is we who are
missing them and we who will have to learn to laugh knowing that they are
laughing with us from heaven - sincerely with love - David Armando Garza II
